Here are a few lamination capabilities that Shawmut Corporation possesses:

Flame Lamination

Flame Lamination is a process used to produce laminates by bonding foam/fabric or foam/film by passing the foam over an open flame. Exposure to the flame creates a thin layer of molten polymer on the foam surface. The molten polymer is then brought into contact with the secondary layer under pressure to develop a bond between the two surfaces. At Shawmut Corporation our performance specifications allow us to produce laminates up to a width capability of 82”.  We use pinhole free barrier materials in our process. Our knowledge in flame lamination allows us to handle flame retardant materials with ease. Finally our machine can produce multiple layer laminates in a single pass.

Solvent-Based Adhesive Lamination

Solvent-Based Adhesive Lamination is a process which liquid polyurethane adhesive is applied directly to a substrate via engraved rollers. Afterwards it is then bonded under pressure to a second layer. Shawmut Corporation’s performance specifications are capable of producing laminates up to a width capability of 72”. We handle temperature sensitive materials with care and with our own room temperature processing. We can provide discontinuous application of adhesives through our wide range of applicator patterns. Shawmut is capable of handling films as thin as 5 microns. Our process allows us to produce washable and dry cleanable laminates. We are experienced in handling high stretch substrates and flame retardant laminates.

Thermoplastic Adhesive Lamination

At Shawmut Corporation, thermoplastic materials in a wide range of available formats are utilized to create adhesion between similar or dissimilar substrates. Our performance specifications allow us to produce laminates up to a width capability of 76”. We are able to handle the application of powered adhesives. Additionally we are able to work with web and dry film adhesives. At Shawmut we have extensive knowledge of fusible substrates. Finally we work well with a full range of polymers such as nylon, polyester, polyolefins, and polyurethanes.
